Wednesday, September 6, 2023

The Rolling Stones today released a single “Angry” and will put out a new album, "Hackney Diamonds," on Oct. 20 on Geffen.

The Stones - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood - made the announcement at a special media launch event at Hackney Empire in East London. The launch was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and streamed worldwide via YouTube.

"Hackney Empire" will be the Stones' first album of their own music in 18 years - since 2005's "A Bigger Bang" - and first since the passing of drummer Charlie Watts. The 12-track album was recorded in various locations around the world, including Henson Recording Studios, Los Angeles; Metropolis Studios, London; Sanctuary Studios, Nassau, Bahamas; Electric Lady Studios, New York; and The Hit Factory/Germano Studios, also in New York.

Watt played on two of the tracks - "By the Sword" and "Mess It Up." Steve Jordan, who toured with the Stones, drums on the other songs. Former Stones member Bill Wyman played on one track.

The track list is: M
1. Angry
2. Get Close
3. Depending on. You
4. Bite My Head Off
5. Whole Wide World
6. Dreamy Skies
7. Mess It Up
8. Live by the Sword
9. Driving Me Too Hard
10. Tell Me Straight
11. Sweet Sound of Heaven
12. Rolling Stone Blues

The group's most recent album was 2016's GRAMMY Award-winning "Blue & Lonesome," which featured versions of many of the blues tracks that helped shape their sound. Last year, they hit Europe on their 60th anniversary tour.

"Hackney Diamonds" marks The Stones' first collaboration with New York-born producer and musician Andrew Watt, who was named Producer of the Year at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards and has worked with Post Malone, Iggy Pop and Elton John.

“Angry” is accompanied by a music video directed by Francois Rousselet, whose credits include work with Nike, Diesel, Pharrell Williams, and on The Stones' “Ride 'Em On Down,” from "Blue & Lonesome." The new promo clip stars Emmy-nominated actress Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, Euphoria, The Handmaid's Tale).
