CMT's Next Superstar is...

Wednesday, March 9, 2011 – CMT's Next Superstar will come a group of five men and five women. The show premiers April 8 and will last 10 episodes.

The intent of the show is open the door for undiscovered singer-songwriters. The 10 include a writer, Wynn Varble, who penned such well-known songs as Waiting on a Woman for Brad Paisley and Have You Forgotten, for Darryl Worley.

Hosted by Thea Andrews, the weekly show will the ups and downs of the contestants who will live together in a house in Nashville.

Auditions were held in Los Angeles, Nashville, Dallas and Austin and private showcases around the country and an online competition through www.ourstage.com. Show talent scouts also sought contestants through industry agents, management, labels, talent schools, honky-tonks - anywhere they could find strong country singer-songwriters.

Matt Dame, 37, Batesville, Ark.
Matt Mason, 25, Fairland, Ind.
Ben Smith, 29, Gainesville, Texas
Wynn Varble, 50, Hampshire, Tenn.

Contestants will try to impress celebrity guests each week through a series of music business related challenges and performance rounds. Each week, one finalist will be eliminated and viewers will vote to determine who will win.
