Gloriana plays GMA, Today Friday

– Gloriana returns to New York City this week opening for Taylor Swift on her "Fearless 2009 Tour" at Madison Square Garden on Aug. 27. While in town, the group will have their first national television performances live on Good Morning America and the Today Show, both on Friday, Aug. 28.
Gloriana is promoting their self-titled album (Emblem Music Group/Warner Bros. Records), which debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Country Album Chart and three on Billboard's Top 200. The album had the best first week sales of any new country artist with a debut album in 2009. Their single Wild At Heart is the best selling song by a new country act in 2009 having sold 300,000 copies to date.

It is interesting that Gloriana shares its name with a 1953 English opera, as they sound much the same --powerful, scripted and slightly overdramatic. The group's tight-knit harmonies are the crux of this 13-track album; they gorgeously weave and contrast strong 2-, 3- and 4-parts into almost every verse. Occasionally the group over sings, but then, they are fighting to be heard over layers of unneeded production.
