Nicholson is "Leaving Lonesome in the Rearview"

Friday, July 3, 2026 – Darren Nicholson is out today with a new single, "Leaving Lonesome in the Rearview."

"I'm very proud of 'Leaving Lonesome in the Rearview,'" Nicholson's first new music since the drop of his full length collection, "Lonesome Trails and Tall Tales." "It's another leaving song from the minds of Charles Humphrey III and myself — a great midtempo bluegrass song with Kristin and Deanie leading the charge musically, and my band mates, Kevin Sluder and Avery Welter, blistering the harmony vocals as always." (That would be Deanie Richardson and Kristin Scott Benson on fiddle and banjo respectively).

David Johnson (guitar) and Mark Fain (upright bass) also back Nicholson on the song.

Lyrics include:
"My hands they shake as I take off my ring
There's a fever in my head as I try to pack my things
It ain't easy starting over when you can't trust a soul
I don't know what to do, but I know I've got to go"

"How do you know it's time to leave?" said Nicholson. "I've always heard when respect is no longer being served, it's time to get up from the table. That's the story in this breakup song. Hope you all enjoy this 'down in the middle' Bluegrass offering."

CD reviews for Darren Nicholson

CD review - Lonesome Trails and Tall Tales Long-time, prominent member of the bluegrass community, Darren Nicholson remains known as a member of the chart-topping Balsam Range. Out on his own now for four years, "Lonesome Trails and Tall Tales" is the latest in a series of releases showcasing the mandolinist's band-leading talents. Reminding us of Vince Gill (especially on the country ballad "I'm Home Late Again"), Nicholson is a familiar voice on bluegrass radio and a consistent chart presence. ...
