Moroney's take: "You Had To Be There"
"You Had To Be There" was released with Kenny Chesney aboard via Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records.
Moroney, Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter and Micah Carpenter wrote the song. Sugarland's Kristian Bush once again produced Moroney.
"That night was so much fun," Moroney said. "The stuff you do with your friends marks a summer. If that's all there was, it was perfect. But last year with Kenny, I saw how his life is creating a string of the most perfect nights for anyone who comes to see him the way we did."
The song was based on Moroney's experience of having seen him years ago in concert and then opening up shows for him on last year's Sun Goes Down 2024 tour.
Lyrics include:
"Bought some nose bleed seats / Summer money well spent / Parking lot, Take a shot, Steal a kiss / And we're ready to go ... Seven years later got a different point of view / Got a sound check in ten and my own dressing room / Going 'round the world with the king of no shoes
"Nobody has more fun, works harder, is more creative or pranked me harder than Megan," said Chesney. "When she called to see if I'd sing on her song, a song she said she wrote about me, I paused. Nobody's ever written a song about me, but nobody's ever ridden a tiny child's tractor down my T wearing my clothes before either."
"The answer was always going to be yes. But what a great thing to sing on a song so well-written, with so much heart and so in the moment. Being out with Megan last year, she really does pack it all into every single thing she does. With her, you do have to be there."
Moroney also released a video for the song directed by CeCe Dawson.

Although Megan Moroney titles her album "Lucky," luck has nothing to do with its success. The football-themed love song "Tennessee Orange" was the first introduction to Moroney for many, but her consistently high-quality album is ending up on many 'best albums of 2023' lists for good reason. Even its extended 15-song deluxe edition has no weak cuts.
It may be difficult to get past how sad Moroney sounds on the otherwise happy love song "Tennessee Orange," ...
After a storied run including eight Entertainer of the Year awards and two Greatest Hits albums (so far), Kenny Chesney was due for a setback. This one wasn't strictly personal, as the "Chillaxification" Tour got waylaid by a pandemic shutdown that scrapped most everything. The loss really belonged to the fans, as the original "Here and Now" record Chesney was supporting was a beauty – from the stirring "Knowing You" to the snarky "Wasted", ...
For many years now, Kenny Chesney has been the number one yacht country artist; one never spotted far from an ocean or without an adult beverage in his hand. However, this album's title track expresses a much deeper perspective on life. "I must've sat on a dozen islands/Watched the sun sink into the sea." Previously, island living was the reason for life. Now, life's purpose is described as much more internal than external. Call it trading that pirate flag for a little more mindfulness. ...
