Young leaves RCA for Black River

Wednesday, December 4, 2024 – Chris Young has left his longstanding home, RCA Records, to sign with Black River Entertainment, he said today.

"I'm so excited to announce my new partnership with Black River Entertainment! RCA Nashville was an amazing home for me since 2006 when Joe Galante signed me to work with the Sony team, but it is time for my next chapter," said Young. "I couldn't be more excited about the new music that's on the way or my new home. Black River is an amazing company, and they have truly impressed upon me how much they believe in me and my future. I can't wait to continue to add to my legacy with them as a Black River Entertainment artist."

"I've had a great 19-year-run with RCA," said Young on Instagram. "But I sort of became a free agent...with the Sony team, but I sort of got to be a free agent for the first time, and then I've been shown so much love (from Black River)...I've got so much music that I can't wait for you guys to hear. It's going to come to you really soon."

"This is a historic day for Black River," said Black River's President and CEO Gordon S. Kerr. "With 14 number ones under his belt, Chris has made an undeniable impression on country music. His songwriting and vocal excellence make him a leader in the genre, and I can't wait to see all we can accomplish together on this impressive journey."

Young has released nine studio albums, 14 number one singles, 25 R.I.A.A. certified projects and numerous ACM, AMA, CMA and GRAMMY nominations, as well as wins for "Performance of the Year" and "Collaborative Video of the Year" at the CMT Music Awards and is a Grand Ole Opry member.

In 2023, Young released the singles "Looking for You" and "Young Love & Saturday Nights," which climbed to fifth on the U.S. country charts. His most recent album, "Young Love & Saturday Nights," was released on March 22, 2024. The disc only reached as high as 34 on the U.S. charts. He never had an album higher than six prior to that.

Black River is also the home of Kelsea Ballerini.

CD reviews for Chris Young

CD review - Famous Friends Given the massive success of Chris Young's award-winning collaboration with Kane Brown on the title track, it would be an easy assumption to make that his eighth studio album would tow the same contemporary line that landed him a bevy of hits. The result is exactly that. But with some contingencies The opener, "Raised on Country," starts out with a raucous groove that may get your toes tapping for the entirety, but the lyrics devolve into some painfully tired cliches like ...
CD review - Losing Sleep Chris Young has one of the best country voices, and it's always a pleasure to hear him sing. But it's disappointing when the title cut sounds more like the groove to a Justin Bieber song than anything truly country. When, say, someone like Jason Aldean performs music with barely any resemblance to real country music, it's not that big a deal; he's not a great natural singer to begin with. However, Young's voice is just too good to waste on mere pop. ...
CD review - It Must Be Christmas Song selection can sometimes seem fairly inessential whenever chosen by a master singer. Such is the case with "It Must Be Christmas," Chris Young's new holiday collection. He sounds as perfectly comfortable with the jazzy "I'll Be Home for Christmas," where its supper club vibe takes a little of the edge off one seriously sad song, as he does with the Phil Spector rock nugget "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." Young is also helped out by a few special guests. ...
