Johnson, Nelson, Barber, Langley out with new music
The ever prodigious Willie Nelson puts out his second disc in six months, "Last Leaf on the Tree." His 76th solo studio album and 153rd album overall, the album was produced by his son, Micah (aka The Particle Kid), and finds Nelson covering songs by rock legends, singer songwriters, alt-rockers and indie folk artists, as well as a new recording of Willie's 1967 song, "The Ghost," and a new composition by Willie and Micah Nelson.
Sam Barber dropped his expansive album debut, "Restless Mind" on Lockeland Springs/Atlantic Records. The 28-track project highlights a rootsy, roughhewn country sound from the 21-year-old native of southern Missouri. Included in the release are Barber's PLATINUM-certified "Straight and Narrow," the track which introduced him in 2023. The album also features collaborations with Avery Anna and Lily Fitts.
Following suit on the deluxe front is Ella Langley with "Still Hungover." She only released her debut CD, "hungover," in August. Four new songs are on the deluxe version - "made it out of mexico (acoustic)" and "weren't for the wind," "20-20" and "girl you're taking home." The Alabama native has enjoyed a hit with "you look like you love me" with Riley Green.
Zach Top released an exclusive Apple Music Nashville Sessions EP, featuring Billy Strings. The three-song project finds the pair performing reimagined versions of Top's original tracks "Bad Luck" and "Things To Do," along with a cover of Ricky Skaggs' "Don't Cheat In Our Home Town. The pair first met this past summer at Montana's Under The Big Sky Festival, where Strings invited Top on stage to share a few songs during his set. Top started off as a bluegrass musician.
Canadian country singer Corb Lund's "El Viejo (Deluxe)" is out today via New West Records. The deluxe edition includes three previously unreleased tracks from the original sessions: a duet version of "Was Fort Worth Worth It?" featuring Jaida Dreyer, "Police State" and "My Girlfriend's a Lawyer."

CD reviews
"Last night a new song came to me
faster than I could write it down.
Sometimes I wonder if there'll be another,
then another comes around."
So Willie Nelson intones on the eponymous song of his latest LP. "Another comes around": this seems to be the case, as we find him here in good form on his 79th solo album (and 156th overall!!). These are mostly slow songs — "After All" is an exception — and fit well into the troubadour's vast corpus. ...
Ella Langley steps into a more defined identity on her sophomore record, "Dandelion," a project that balances personal reflection with a confident, modern country sound. Langley took time off the road last summer to focus on her mental health. Co-produced alongside Miranda Lambert, the album leans into both stripped-back moments and fuller arrangements, allowing Langley to move between introspection and release with ease. Her vocal approach remains controlled throughout, favoring clarity ...
Sam Barber leans into restraint on "Broken View," an album built less around dramatic moments and more around emotional honesty. Across the record, Barber keeps the focus narrow and intentional, favoring stripped-back arrangements, grounded vocals and reflective songwriting over polished production. The result is a collection of songs that feels personal without trying too hard to announce its importance.
"Just A Kid" immediately establishes the album's introspective ...
