Wilson, Rhett, Zeiders, Acuff dish out new music

Friday, August 23, 2024 – "Whirlwind" is the new album from country star Lainey Wilson, out now via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville. Produced by Jay Joyce, the 14-track disc includes the single "Hang Tight Honey." "Good Horses" features Miranda Lambert, who also helped write the song. This has been part of a big year for Wilson: induction into the Grand Ole Opry and winning Best Country Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, three awards at the 59th annual ACM Awards and five awards at the 57th annual CMA Awards (being named Entertainer of the Year at both the ACMs and CMAs).

Thomas Rhett continues paying homage to his wife with "About A Woman" on The Valory Music Co. Rhett, who crosses genres with his soulful vocal delivery, has penned songs about his wife, Lauren, many times in the past. Here, he devotes the entire album to her. Rhett co-wrote 12 of the 14 songs.

Warren Zeiders, the pride of Hershey, Pa., is out with his second release, "Relapse," on Warner. The 10-track project features recent singles "Betrayal" and the title track. The set was produced by Mike Elizondo. "Relapse" follows Zeiders' number one single on country radio for the double-platinum title track,

Idaho native Colby Acuff, who mines a more traditional country sound, is out with his second release for Sony Music Nashville, "American Son." The 16-track relase features "How Do I Feel Alive," with sibling trio The Castellows as well as Acuff's take on Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne." Acuff wrote nine of the songs himself, a rarity in country music.

Laci Kaye Booth's new EP, "The Loneliest Girl In The World (Acoustic Sessions)," is out. Released via Geffen Records, the project features stripped down versions of six songs from Booth's full-length debut album, "The Loneliest Girl In The World, including "Cigarettes."

Randy Rogers Ba"nd has a new release, sort of, "Rollercoaster 20th Anniversary Edition." The 11-track release was completely remastered and resequenced. Produced by Radney Foster, "Rollercoaster" was the second full-length effort from Randy Rogers Band, who formed in 2000.

The Grascals, who formed in 2004, are going strong with "20" on Mountain Home Music Co. The title of the bluegrass sextet's new album ties past, present and future neatly with new and previously released material. The release also features the return of founder, singer/guitarist Jamie Johnson.

CD review - Western White Pines With "Western White Pines," Colby Acuff reveals many sides of his musical personality. All of them appealing. He is also a young man with a wise old man's soul, and his major label album gives listeners many reasons to love this relatively new country voice. Acuff takes on the big topic of what is (and isn't) an outlaw with "Outlaw in Me." He begins by confessing to being an outlaw to his parents, at least. "Mama says that I drink too much/Daddy don't like ...
CD review - Bell Bottom Country Lainey Wilson was named Billboard's Top New Country Artist of 2021, ACM 2022 New Female Artist of the Year, CMT's 2022 "Breakout Artist of the Year" and scored six CMA Awards nominations, some impressive achievements for a relatively new face on the country music scene. This new album only confirms that she is a unique talent with her own sound in a genre that usually rewards conformity and sameness. There is as much rock 'n' roll in these tunes as there is country ...
CD review - Where We Started Thomas Rhett's "Where We Started" begins with a wonderfully positive relationship song titled "The Hill." Over a quiet, acoustic guitar arrangement, Rhett sings of how a successful marriage is the hill he wants to die on. In other words, if he's going to fight for anything, he's going to battle for his romantic partnership. Unsurprisingly, Lori McKenna had a part in writing it. When it comes to setting the right priorities in life, McKenna is one of our greatest ...
