Nashville Music Equality looks at musicians behind the stars

Wednesday, August 19, 2020 – The discussion of race and music from Nashville Music Equality continues with "Dear Music City: Tales From The B(l)ackground" on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. Central.

The panel will discuss the racial bias experiences that members behind some of the biggest names in music have endured.

The panel will be moderated by Shannon Sanders, Recording Academy Trustee and Program Director of 102.1 The Ville, and Beverly Keel, Dean of MTSU's College of Media and Entertainment.

Panelists Include:
Nicole Neely - arranger/composer/conductor - Also performed with Beyonce, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, H.E.R. Grammy Awards, CMA's, BET Awards

Wendy Moten - vocalist/songwriter - Performed with Vince Gill, Martina McBride, Julio Iglesias, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Mike Hicks: musician/singer/songwriter (Rascal Flatts Band) - Also performed with Keb M and Jonny Lang.

Jason Eskridge: musician/vocalist/songwriter (Zac Brown Band) - Also performed with Lyle Lovett, Randy Travis, Jonny Lang, Keb Mo', Nicole C. Mullen, Marc Broussard and TobyMac.

Brian Haley - (former drummer for TobyMac) - Also performed with CeCe Winans, Dr. Bobby Jones, and Nashville Super Choir, Karen Clarke-Shear, Yolanda Adams, Donna McClurkin, Mandisa, Britt Nicole, Melinda Doolittle, etc.

This series was created in an effort to create inclusion, fight racism and "eliminate the ignorance of the issues facing African Americans in Nashville in 2020, from the streets and stages to the studios and board rooms," according to a press release.
