Fortuneteller's Melody (Lyric Street, 2006)

SHeDAISY

Reviewed by Michael Sudhalter

For their seventh album, the Utah trio of SHeDAISY returns with another disc filled with heavily pop-influenced country, girl power anthems and empty lyrics. The highlight of the 12 tracks is the final cut - "She Gets What I Deserve," the only track of any substance. It's written from the perspective of a woman looking at the life of her ex-lover's new lover.

SHeDAISY exhibits excellent harmonies on songs like "23 Days" and "I'm Taking the Wheel," but their main problem is song selection.

"What Do I Do Now"" is a post break-up song that has the lyrics of an emotional ballad, yet SHeDAISY delivers the tune in an uptempo, upbeat manner. When they hit the ballads, the trio comes up with forgettable lyrics.

Give SHeDAISY credit for creativity on "God Bless the American Housewife," writing a song from the perspective of a housewife with the lyric -'I have to call the plumber because my daughter flushed my wedding ring." Maybe they should give up country music and hit the comedy circuit.
