John Corbett (Fun Bone, 2006)

Though Corbett does not write any of the tunes here he chooses wisely. One of the more interesting tracks is "Cash," composed by Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall, the tale of a man recently laid off who finds solace in a stack of Johnny Cash records.
Other standouts are the bluesy "Simple Man," written by Hal Ketchum and Darrell Scott, and "Last Stand," co-written by Elton John's long time collaborator Bernie Taupin.
Corbett delivers strong, soulful vocals throughout, though too often his voice is buried in the mix of layered harmonies.
While Corbett professes to want his music to be appraised on it's own merits, the 19 photos in the CD packaging are sufficient to exploit Corbett's Hollywood hunk status, but with his debut release, John Corbett succeeds in establishing himself as a serious musical performer.
