The Family (Ceili Music, 1999)

Del McCoury Band

Reviewed by Robert Wooldridge

With their latetst, the Del McCoury Band demonstrate why they have dominated the IBMA Awards the past several years. On "The Family," the first release on Ricky Skaggs' new Ceili label, Del and the boys once again display their excellent vocals and musicianship. McCoury's lead vocals are best exemplified on the ballads "50/50 Chance of Love," "The Look of a Perfect Diamond," and "The City of Stone." The instrumental "Bubscud" showcases Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Jason Carter on fiddle. Bassist Mike Bub and Rob McCoury on banjo shine as well.
