Foggy Mountain Gospel: The Complete Columbia Gospel Recordings (Columbia, 2005)

Flatt & Scruggs

Reviewed by John Lupton

Flatt & Scruggs gospel recording serves as a compilation of sterling gospel singles from the '50s, with the addition of 2 complete releases from the 1960s, "Songs Of Glory" and "When The Saints Go Marching In," and a number of live recordings. Spread out over 2 discs, the 52 tracks here serve as a reminder that not only was their gospel work as compelling as their secular material, but that for all his reputation as the "Paganini of the Banjo," Scruggs was a master of the finger-style guitar as well.
