Masters of the Mandolin (Pinecastle, 2001)
Bobby Osborne and Jesse McReynolds
Reviewed by Brad San Martin
Jesse McReynolds' crosspicking mandolin style never fails to enthrall, with its intricate spring and melodic verve. Bobby Osborne's more linear style is a perfect match, and the two take a good-natured romp through lilting waltzes, aching ballads and more spry fiddle tunes - including four vocals. This disc is testament to the vitality of masters who continue to challenge themselves to new creative heights.
