Apologize, Jason Aldean
Jeffrey Remz | October 28, 2013
The intent may have been right by Jason Aldean - raising money to fight breast cancer - but the words were all wrong in comments that denigrated the very women he claims to care about.
Aldean did his eighth concert to donate funds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation from a concert in New Orleans.
Turns out that Aldean did the job when it came to money. The gig on Sunday night raised $575,000 with the check given to a local chapter of the Komen foundation.
But it was the comments of Aldean that left something to be desired.
All funds will directly support Komen New Orleans grants for breast cancer screening, treatment and education programs.
"New Orleans needs this money as badly as anyone right now," said Aldean from the stage. "I can't tell you how happy I am to give them this check. Like pretty much everyone I know, I've lost someone I love to breast cancer, and I don't want anyone else to have to go through that. For all you ladies out there - we love the rack...save 'em, alright."
On the one hand, Aldean said he is interested in fighting breasts cancer and that he has a personal connection with the right against the disease.
On the other, he treats breasts as a sexual object for men. "We love the rack...save 'em alright" means that they are objects of man's sexual desire.
Aldean should have a lot more common sense when he talks about cancer and breasts. Such stupid, offensive comments were not needed and do nothing to raise the status of women.
The Komen Foundation has had enough headaches in the past few years due to getting embroiled in politics when it should not have. Now, they're involved in dealing with dumb comments by Aldean.
Aldean should apologize for his misogynistic comments and treat women with a little respect, not as a sex object.
