Calling out Kutcher
Jeffrey Remz | April 5, 2012
We haven't heard much from Ashton Kutcher since Sunday night fortunately, but that doesn't mean he's off the hook. At least not with Justin Moore.
The singer, who tweeted on Sunday that Kutcher's ultra-lame act on Sunday at the Academy of Country Music Awards gig was the work of a "douche," issued a challenge for Kutcher to attend one of his shows and hang. (The quote was: "What a douche! I don't care for people making a mockery of the way country artists' dress.")
At the awards show, Kutcher came out with two sidekicks wearing a red Manual like jacket and a big black cowboy hat and sang a wobbly version of George Strait's Cross My Heart. He sang poorly and came off like a poseur. Miranda Lambert tweeted after the show, questioning whether Kutcher was making fun of country music
Kutcher defended himself, saying he was a big fan of the genre. Moore seemed to question whether Kutcher was legit. "He may be a country music fan," Moore said to Fox News. "If he is, I'd love to have him out at a show. He's more than welcome to come out, we can discuss it. If he's as big a country music fan as he says he is, maybe he'll do that."
Moore told Fox he stood by his words on Twitter:"I do. Everybody who knows me knows that I kind of say it like it is. If it comes up, it comes out, I get that from my Mom and my Grandma. Like I said he might be a great guy, he might be a huge country fan, but I thought this particular situation, I found it to be distasteful."
Referring to Lambert, Moore also said he was "happy to see I wasn't the only one. I thought for a minute, maybe I'm out of line here but it was good to know that I wasn't the only one that kind of found it to be a little off color and I've had people that I'm buddies with in the industry text me and things like that, that said they agree as well so like I said we're entitled to have our own opinion. I'm sure his fans have their opinion and that's great.
Fox asked Moore whether it was the outfit or song that bothered him. "I think it was a combination of the two. I thought the outfit to me was a little more ridiculous than anything else, that was just my first impression. I've never been to an event where I've dressed like two of my buddies... I don't know that I've ever seen him dress like that. I read an article that said maybe he was just trying to fit in. In my opinion the best way to fit in anywhere is just to be yourself and I felt like he was not doing that. But again, just my opinion.
I checked Kutcher's Twitter just now. He's been real quiet about the ACMs since he told Lambert was a fan. You think Kutcher will show up at a Moore concert? I highly doubt it, but an interesting challenge. I give credit to Moore to call out Kutcher. Lambert also.
