The Bellamy Brothers produce a head scratcher

Jeffrey Remz  |  January 13, 2011

The Bellamy Brothers are getting downright laughable. A few days after complaining aloud that Britney Spears' brand new single Hold It Against Me smacked of similarity to their 1979 hit, If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body, Would You Hold It Against Me, the brothers are supposedly keeping their legal options open.

At least that's according to a press release from their publicist late Thursday night. The release said the question from inquiring minds was "Will we see a lawsuit?"

The answer:"It's possible. Earlier today, the brothers' Nashville publicist confirmed the group has indeed decided to 'weigh their legal options.'"

A story on Wednesday at the MTV web site quoted a lawyer as saying they had no chance.

This is a real head scratcher. The songs are not the least bit similar musically. The Bellamys are arguing that part of a title by Spears was, in effect, ripped off. Note, that she did not write the song, but only recorded it. So, why would they be going after her? That makes no sense to me.

Unless, of course, they were seeking publicity, money or both.
