What about the day job, Mick Huckabee?

Does music and politics make strange bedfellows? Apparently not for Mick Huckabee.

CMT.com reported earlier this week that former Arkansas Governor, Presidential candidate and now Fox news Huckabee is recording a country disc. CMT said that Huckabee was in Music City to record "with various country artists."

The site also said that someone in the know claimed that the project would be officially announced in June at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show in Nashville.

During his presidential campaign, Huckabee could be found on the bass at stops.

So, if Huckabee doesn't do anything in the 2012 campaign should he run, could he then fall back on his recording career? In the old days, one would have said there was a lot more money in music than politics (well, being an honest pol that is). That's no longer the case. Give Huckabee credit for having passion anyway. Whether he has any real musical chops remains to be seen. He, of course, is not the first politican to mix with music. Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch has made thousands of dollars in royalties as a songwriter. Roy Acuff and the late La. Gov. Jimmy Davis were examples in a different era. New York Congressman John Hall first made his mark as the lead singer of Orleans (Still the One), which was not a country band in the '70s, but now, who knows how they'd be classified.

Well good luck Huck. Based on how things are in Nashville these days, they're not looking too much for new artists who are pushing middle age.
