The music was recorded at Sage & Sound Studios in Hollywood with friend Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. Louris had called in Robinson, who happened to be in town at that point, for vibe support and he ended up producing. Robinson also played harmonica and offered backing vocals.

Louvin reached back for several songs from the Louvins 1956 album, "Tragic Songs of Life," and took 9 songs from a box set, "People Take Warning! Murder Ballads & Disaster Songs, 1913-1938" for the CD.
