The Decemberists announce new CD
Monday, November 3, 2014 – The Decemberists will release their seventh studio album, "What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World," on Jan. 20, 2015 on Capitol Records, the band announced Monday.
Produced by the band and long-time collaborator Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Neko Case), this is The Decemberists' first full-length studio album since 2011's "The King Is Dead," which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200.
"Make You Better," the soaring, bittersweet first single from What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, is out today and available at all digital retailers. The track can be heard here.
The band kicks off a European tour on Feb. 11, 2015 in Dublin, Ireland with U.S. dates to follow.
While officially on hiatus for the past few years, The Decemberists - Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen - remained visible. The band released a live album, "We All Raise Our Voices to the Air," contributed a song to "The Hunger Game"s soundtrack, appeared in animated form on "The Simpsons" and performed on the season six finale of "Parks and Recreation." Meloy, the group's lead singer and principal songwriter, immersed himself in writing "Under Wildwood" and "Wildwood Imperium," the second and third books of "The Wildwood Chronicles," the best-selling middle-grade fantasy-adventure series that he created with his wife, illustrator Carson Ellis.
With their two most recent albums, "The Hazards of Love" and "The King is Dead," the songs had an overall theme. Entering the studio in May 2013, The Decemberists reversed that approach.
"Typically we book four or five weeks in the studio and bang out the whole record," said Meloy. "This time, we started by just booking three days and didn't know what we would record. There was no direction or focus; we wanted to just see what would come out. We recorded 'Lake Song' on the first day, live, and then two more songs in those three days. And the spirit of that session informed everything that came after."
The first songs were highly personal, a change from the strong narrative thrust that has characterized much of The Decemberists' work. "Having a family, having kids, having this career, getting older - all of these things have made me look more inward," sayid Meloy.
These reflections come to the foreground in "12/17/12," a song he wrote after watching President Obama address the nation following the Newtown, Conn. school shootings. "I was hit by a sense of helplessness, but also the message of 'Hold your family close,'" said Meloy. This conflicted feeling came out in a phrase near the end of the song -"what a terrible world, what a beautiful world"- that gave the album its title.

Imagine Dragons releases new single
Monday, October 27, 2014 – Imagine Dragons released a new single, "I Bet My Life," today.
Written and produced by Imagine Dragons, "I Bet My Life" is the first music to be released from the Las Vegas quartet's upcoming second album, which will be released by KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records in 2015. Singer Dan Reynolds said: "This song is about the relationship I've had with my parents throughout the years. At times it's been strained and difficult, but in the end, 'I Bet My Life' celebrates the bond that we still hold on to."
Formed in 2009 by Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee and drummer Daniel Platzman, Imagine Dragons earned a grassroots following by independently releasing a series of EPs. After Alex Da Kid signed them to his KIDinaKORNER/Interscope label, the band made its major-label debut with the release of "Continued Silence," a 2012 EP featuring the two-times Platinum breakthrough single "It's Time." The band's double-Platinum album "Night Visions ," with the meghait "Radioactive."
Pink Floyd disc coming in November
Monday, September 22, 2014 – "The Endless River," the new Pink Floyd album from David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason, will be out Nov. 10.
The group today revealed the album artwork appeared on buildings in 10 International cities, including New York and Los Angeles. The album will be released on Columbia Records and is produced by Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.
"The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 ‘Division Bell' sessions," Gilmour said. "We listened to over 20 hours of the 3 of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album. Over the last year, we've added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire."
Mason said the disc "is a tribute to Rick. I think this record is a good way of recognizing a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was."
"The Endless River" is mainly a four-sided instrumental album with one song, "Louder Than Words", with new lyrics by Polly Samson, Gilmour's wife .The concept for the powerful imagery of a man rowing on a "river" of clouds was created by Ahmed Emad Eldin, an 18-year-old Egyptian digital artist. Ahmed's image was then re-created by Stylorouge, award-winning UK design agency.
Pink Floyd's album artwork, mostly created by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis, is as legendary as the band's music. With Storm's passing in 2013, the task of finding an image that carried on Storm's legacy passed to Aubrey ‘Po' Powell, Storm's original partner in Hipgnosis. Powell said: "When we saw Ahmed's image, it had an instant Floydian resonance. It's enigmatic and open to interpretation, and is the cover that works so well for ‘The Endless River.'"
"The Endless River" track listing runs across four sides, "to invoke the album listening experience," according to a press release.
The tracks are:
Things Left Unsaid
It's What We Do
Ebb And Flow
The Lost Art of Conversation
On Noodle Street
Eyes To Pearls
Louder Than Words
The disc had been schedule for an October release when it was first announced, but no reason was cited for the delay.

Death Cab's Walla leaves band
Wednesday, August 13, 2014 – Founding member Chris Walla is leaving Death Cab for Cutie, the band announced today.
The guitarist/keyboardist/producer will leave the group following its current run of festival dates, culminating with a headline performance at Victoria, Canada's Rifflandia.
"We've had an incredible 17 years of making music with Chris and are very proud of what we've accomplished together, including our eighth studio album, which we have just put the finishing touches on," stated Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer and Jason McGerr. "We will miss Chris and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career. We're excited about sharing new music, and seeing all of you very soon."
"I think I long for the unknown. It might be that simple," said Walla in an online post.
"Deciding to leave the band was not, and is not, easy. It's really, really sad. I love my bandmates, and I'm proud of what we've done, and mercifully, those things don't change with my departure. Moving forward, my plans are simply to continue making music, producing records, and erring on the side of benevolence and beauty whenever possible. Darkness may find me, but I shall never choose it."
"I will miss being a quarter of this band, and will support whatever course Death Cab for Cutie chooses from here," said Walla. "I am profoundly grateful to Ben, Nick and Jason for the experiences that define my adult life. Truly grateful, beyond words. Thank you."
Death Cab for Cutie is currently winding up sessions for its eighth studio album. The band is recording in Los Angeles with Rich Costey (Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Interpol) behind the board. The album is slated for release in early 2015 with touring to follow.
Dion breaks from touring to deal with husband's health
Wednesday, August 13, 2014 – Celine Dion announced Wednesday that she would take a break from touring to deal with her husband's health issues.
Her web site said that the Canadian singer "decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely, in order to focus 100% of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues. Since Rene's surgery last December to remove a cancerous tumor, it's been a very difficult and stressful time for the couple as they deal with the day-to-day challenges of fighting this disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule, and raise their three young children."
Dion has also been fighting an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles and has not been able to perform any of her scheduled shows in Las Vegas since her last show on July 29. She has still not recovered from this condition.
"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support." said Dion.
During this hiatus, Dion will cancel her shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace until further notice. She will also cancel her tour of Asia, previously scheduled for the fall.
The Civil Wars are officially history
Tuesday, August 5, 2014 – The duo - Joy Lynn Williams and John Paul White - announced on their web site Tuesday that the year-plus long split is now permanent.
"The Civil Wars...have regretfully decided to permanently part ways. The difficult decision ends a tumultuous period for the four-time Grammy Award-winning band, which has been on indefinite hiatus since late 2012," the duo said on its web site.
What exactly led to the break-up was never made clear. Williams talked about trying to work issues out with White, but he had very little to say about the internal issues. They never toured behind their last release and major label debut.
They self-released "Barton Hollow" in 2011 to wide acclaim and two Grammys in 2012. They followed "Barton Hollow" up in 2013 with "The Civil Wars" on Columbia. The album débuted at number one on the Billboard charts. The duo also won a Grammy in 2013 for "Safe & Sound" with Taylor Swift and in 2014 for "From This Valley" for Bese\t Country Duo/Group Performance.
"I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least," said Williams, who previously had a career as a Christian artist. "JP is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together. I sincerely hope that 'You Are My Sunshine' will be accepted as a token of my gratitude for every single person that has supported our duo throughout the years. I'm so thankful and my heart is full. Looking ahead, I'm excited to share the music that I am writing and recording in the midst of this difficult transition. I've loved being back in the studio and have missed performing live. I look forward to seeing you soon."
"I would like to express sincere thanks to all who were a part of the arc of The Civil Wars-from the beginning, to the end, and all points in between," said White. "My deep appreciation goes out to all who supported, disseminated and enjoyed the music. Whatever shape or form the next chapter takes, thanks for being a large part of this one."
The Civil Wars gave a parting "thank you gift and farewell," a download of their rendition of "You Are My Sunshine." Recorded in 2010, the track was originally released in 2011 as a b-side to the band's limited edition Barton Hollow 7" vinyl. This marked the first time the song was available digitally in the U.S.

Israeli, Palestinian attacks force Young to cancel concert in Israel
Sunday, July 13, 2014 – Due to the current battles between Israel and terrorists in Gaza and Lebanon, Neil Young & Crazy Horse were forced to cancel their concert appearance originally scheduled for July 17 in Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv.
A spokesperson for Young's camp said: "It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we must cancel our one and only Israeli concert due to tensions which have rendered the event unsafe at this time. We'll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace."

Yanofsky goes home again
Wednesday, July 9, 2014 – By Jason MacNeil
This year marked the 35th anniversary of the Festival International De Jazz De Montreal. The number also marks the percentage of her life jazz/pop singer Nikki Yanofsky has played at the annual event: seven times despite being a mere 20 years old.
"It's always fun, it's my hometown," Yanofsky says the day prior to her headlining show at Metropolis, an old but intimate venue. "It's the one show a year I do here, and it's a challenge, too, to play the same place every year. You get to see how the audience grows with you, how they develop, how you develop. It's also a good challenge to see how you can make things fresh and new each year and different so you're not doing the same thing every time you're here."
Yanofsky shook things up earlier this year with her latest album, "Little Secret," an album that sees her branching out from standard jazz into a more punchy, poppy realm. It's something the singer says she had been eager to do for a while.
"I started out this album already knowing I wanted to bridge jazz and pop, sort of fuse them together and bring it back to my generation," she says. "The first song I wrote for this album was 'Little Secret.' I wrote that with Matt Morris, and that was the first time I realized it was possible to do that. 'Something New' was the second one and then 'Blessed With Your Curse.' Basing a song off a scat, it really opened my eyes to the possibilities of what you could do with that."
The singer also says the biggest hurdle in making the record was believing in herself that she could do it. "A lot of people, if they're not in your head and they don't understand where you want it to end up, it's hard to grasp the idea you can do something original and new," Yanofsky says. "If nobody's heard something like that before then they won't get it right away. I had to be like, 'No I have to see this through.' In the end they were like, 'Okay I get it now.' It was cool to be able to put what was in my head down in song."
Yanofsky, who said wrote close to 100 songs for the record, also worked with Quincy Jones for the album. The singer says despite his stature in music Jones remains a "so normal, so down-to-earth" person. "It was just a dream come true for me," she says. "He understood what I wanted to do right from the beginning and supported it. He understands the pop and jazz world better than anyone. He was the master of both, from Michael Jackson to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington and all those greats. He loved the idea that I wanted to de-categorize music in a way. He always tells me to do that. He told me Duke Ellington told him to do that."
One of the songs Yanofsky says was an homage to Jones was "Something New," a tune Yanofsky, Rob Kleiner and Audra Mae Butts wrote which honored two icons simultaneously. "I wanted to have a tribute song for him (Jones) and to Herbie Hancock," Yanofsky says. "Those two guys have been extremely supportive of me throughout my whole career, always pushing me to do better and push my limits a bit.
"We had this song and I was like, 'This is really good, are you paying homage to 'Watermelon Man' (a song found on Hancock's 1962 debut album)? I don't think he (Kleiner) knew the song. I was like, 'Why don't we combine it and make it a tribute to the two of them. So the chorus became 'Soul Bossa Nova' by Quincy Jones and 'Watermelon Man.' When I played it for Herbie the first time, Quincy was there also, and Herbie didn't know I got the rights to 'Watermelon Man' because obviously you have to get the rights. He (Hancock) was like, 'Wow, this sounds a lot like 'Watermelon Man.' Then the song continued and he said, 'This sounds a lot like 'Watermelon Man.' I was like, 'Herbie you know we got the rights to do this, this is my thank you to you!' He was like, 'You mean I'm getting paid for this?' I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'This is the best song ever!' It was hilarious."
Meanwhile the breezy 'Waiting On The Sun' originated from a lyrics-writing "Song Game" Yanofsky and co-writer Max Frost participated in online. The game brought them together to pen one of the album's highlights. "I reached out to him on e-mail," she says. "I said, 'Hey man I really like what you're submitting, let's co-write.' He sent me some songs with really jazzy chords. He sent 'Waiting On The Sun' up to the chorus and first verse. We wrote the second verse together, I wrote the bridge and that was it."
Yanofsky is touring Europe in July, but is already working on her next album, a continuation of the style of "Little Secret." She also says this jaunt will be "more of a show" and benefit from the fact her album is actually out before she begins touring. "The audience so far has been really supportive," she says. "There's never been an awkward moment or a moment where it didn't go over as planned. It's been really smooth sailing so far. Knock on wood."

The Swell Season's Irglova announces new disc
Tuesday, July 8, 2014 – Marketa Irglova will release her second solo album, "Muna," on Sept. 23 via Anti-.
Irglovaand Glen Hansard, who together are The Swell Season, both starred and performed their music in the film "Once," for which they won an Academy Award for the song "Falling Slowly."
Irglova wrote11 songs over the course of a year and recorded it in Iceland, where she now resides with her new baby girl, within six months with producer/engineer Sturla Mio Thorisson at the helm.
"I had been to Iceland for the first time with the Swell Season," Irglova said. "I fell in love with it then and was sad to leave, although I knew someday something would bring me back. I am inspired by the open space, the wilderness of the nature, the strong energy coming from the land. There is a harmony, a balance, something that allows for a freer flow of creativity. It is easier to be one with oneself and one with everything and everyone around. This makes for better art, in my opinion."
"This Right Here," a track from "Muna, can be heard online.
"Muna" (Icelandic for "Remember") eatures 27 musicians, utilizing full choral, string and percussion pieces, plus guests Rob Bochnik (The Frames), Iranian daf player and vocalist Aida Shahghasemi, as well as Irglova's sister Zuzi on backing vocals. Inspiration for the album partially came from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" and a trilogy of books written by Neale Donald Walsh titled "Conversations With God."
"I believe God speaks through us in many ways, beginning with simple acts of kindness and ending with pieces of art that inspire millions for generations. Pink Floyd returns with new album this fall
Monday, July 7, 2014 – Twenty years after the release of its last album, Pink Floyd will release a new disc, the band revealed on its web site.
"Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album, The Endless River, in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the summer."
That apparently means that Roger Waters, who has had frosty relations with the band since leaving in 1983 after "The Final Cut," will not appear.
Pink Floyd's last album was "The Division Bell" in 1994.
News of the project first leaked on Saturday when the wife of Pink Floyd guitarist Gilmour, Polly Samson, said on Twitter, "Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called "The Endless River". Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful."
Wright, the keyboardist for Floyd, died in 2008.
Druga McBroom-Hudson, a vocalist who has toured with the band as a back-up singer, posted a photo of herself singing in recording session on her Facebook page. "YES. THERE IS A NEW PINK FLOYD ALBUM COMING OUT. AND I'M ON IT. And there was much rejoicing."
Lanois preps for "The End"
Monday, June 30, 2014 – By Jason MacNeil
While producer Daniel Lanois revealed the album title for his next studio effort will be "The End," it's definitely not a swan song by any stretch of the imagination.
"There's a very specific track called 'The End,'" Lanois said during a June 26 press conference prior to his performance with Trixie Whitley, Emmylou Harris and Brian Blades at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. "I called it that because I felt it was the end of an era for me and the beginning of this new adventure."
The musician, who also played a haunting instrumental on pedal steel guitar during 30-minute presser, said The End's sound will be a natural evolution of the sound found on Neil Young's "Le Noise" album, which Lanois produced. "I have devoted myself to the songs one more time and the machines have come in in a big way," he said. "I touched on it with the Neil Young record, ‘Le Noise' record where it's just solo guitar, but we provided a lot of sounds surrounding the guitar that make it more expansive and monumental and powerful. I'm very proud. and I think it's a tip of the iceberg, and I'm going to get to a higher place with it."
Lanois, who has worked with U2, Peter Gabriel and Bob Dylan as a producer, said he'll be wearing a different hat for the next little while.
"I've sat in the producer's chair all my life and it struck me last year that I've spent too much time in the chair," he said. "The chair started to hurt me because it's largely about solving problems. Maybe the problems are loose ends, and they need to be a little tighter, and the record is not a masterpiece, and it needs to be a masterpiece. It takes a lot out of you. I take all of these challenges personally. So I'm trying to back away from the producer's chair, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in collaboration."
And although he's not chomping at the bit to begin producing for the time being, he said he has always been able to tell when "a masterpiece is on the horizon." Of course, being an integral part of albums such as Bob Dylan's "Time Out Of Mind" and U2's "The Joshua Tree" certainly hasn't hurt.
"It usually happens the same way that you develop sound for a project," Lanois said. "As you get in there and get dirty, something special will come your way That special moment of discover belongs to that project, then another one and another one. Before you know it the record starts to define itself by those special moments."
"The job then is to recognize those special moments might be more special than the plan that you went in with," he added. "So you have to have the courage to abandon what you invested your time into, that's a big part of it."
Those moments and collaborations have almost naturally influenced his own musical creations in his solo career. "I was lucky enough to have my skills intact when the invitations came to work with artists that knew something that I didn't. But I couldn't just show up without skills, so I showed up and presented something to them and the exchanged happened.
"My poetry got better when I worked with Bob Dylan, my defiance worked better when I was sitting with Bono, my appetite for processing sounds got better when I worked with Peter Gabriel. That's just what you come home with, it's natural. The taking happens if you give."
Lanois said he also will mount a tour of Quebec and the Maritime provinces later this year before mounting a North American trek in November The tour might see him working with Canadian electro-musician Venetian Snares, a tour he describes as celebrating "the more innovate, laboratory side of myself because it would largely be instrumental music."
Lanois also plays at the Harvest Picnic in Dundas, Ontario on Aug. 23. The show will feature Lanois, Ray LaMontagne, Bruce Cockburn and Los Lobos. Lanois amusingly recalled his first encounter with Los Lobos in Montreal a few years ago.
"I walked in, and they were like a couple of gangsters, and they hated the look of me," Lanois said. "And then Andre (Andre Menard, Montreal International Jazz Festival's Artistic Director) said, 'This is Daniel Lanois.' And they said, 'Daniel Lanois? We should work together man. We'll keep it chill, no stress man. You want to work with Los Lobos, no stress.'"

Kimbra announces soph effort
Tuesday, June 10, 2014 – Kimbra, of "Somebody That I Used To Know" fame, will release a new album, "The Golden Echo," on Aug. 19 via Warner.
The album is available for pre-order on all participating retailers today. Those who pre-order will receive three instant downloads of the album tracks "Love In High Places," "90s Music," and "Nothing But You."
The track list is:
As You Are
Love In High Places
Nobody But You
Waltz Me To Grave
"The Golden Echo" is Kimbra's second album. Her 2011 debut, "Vows," bowed at 14 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified platinum in Australia and New Zealand. Kimbra burst into the public eye with "Somebody That I Used To Know," a duet with Gotye that earned her a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year. The song topped Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 2012 and was the best-selling song of that year in the U.S. It has sold more than 13 million copies.
The New Zealand-born singer and songwriter wrote the songs for the new disc in her bedroom studio on a farm in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, where she was surrounded by sheep and lambs owned by her landlady. "It was a very humbling experience," said Kimbra, who moved in the day after winning two Grammy Awards. "I had just been through the Gotye stuff and the Grammy's, and all the touring. You get very wrapped up in it all. Then you're chilling with a bunch of sheep, and they don't give a crap who you are."
Rich Costey (Foster The People, Interpol, Muse, produced along with Kimbra. She wrote several of the songs with Daniel Johns from Silverchair, another idol of hers.
Sonically, the album is a riot of genres: '70s disco ("Miracle"), Prince-like funk ("Madhouse"), playful, sing-songy electro-pop ("90s Music"), eerie space-age hip-hop ("Goldmine"), plus a piano ballad, "As You Are," with a string arrangement by Van Dyke Parks. Her lo-fi bedroom aesthetic was filled out by the playing of the musicians, who include drummer John JR Robinson, (Michael Jackson's main studio drummer, who played on five of the tracks), as well as several special guests: Muse's Matt Bellamy ("90s Music"), bassist Thundercat, R&B singer Bilal ("Be Everlovin' Ya") and John Legend ("Nobody But You").
Kimbra worked on songs with Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors and Flying Lotus during the making of "The Golden Echo" that will be released later in the year, though these do not appear on the album. However, bonus tracks on the deluxe edition include appearances from Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and Jonas Bjerre of Danish band Mew.

Morissette releases song for Congressional candidate
Monday, May 5, 2014 – Alanis Morissette released a new single, "Today," to be the official song of a Congressional candidate in California.
The Canadian singer offered the song for Marianne Williamson's Congressional campaign in California's 33rd District. The song can be downloaded for free.
Morissette has been an avid supporter of Williamson and sang at her announcement on Oct. 20, 2013. While giving a keynote talk for Williamson, Morissette was asked if she would write a song for her campaign.
"I was attempting to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it," said Morissette. "Recording at Sunset Sound with my band mates, Marianne came by and visited … We all huddled together as the song was recorded. I love this song. I love this woman, and I love a world that would vote for her."
In her song, Morissette joins Williamson in taking a stand for democracy and economic justice. Williamson is running for Congress in California's District 33 as an independent candidate. "Williamson denounces the shrinking of our civil liberties, the expansion of corporate influence and the pervasiveness of domestic surveillance," according to a press release.
"I am thrilled that Alanis has written and recorded the song `Today' for my campaign," said Williamson. "Her artistic genius is a gift to the world; the fact that she would use it in support of my campaign is the highest honor I can imagine."
Morissette will perform the song when she joins Williamson for a free pre-election rally on Monday, May 19 at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles at 7:30 pm. The event will be live-streamed at marianneforcongress.com/live.

Friday, April 4, 2014 – "Hush," a new song by Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, Matt Berninger of indie rock band The National and producer/writer Charlie Peacock, will be featured as the theme song for the new AMC drama "Turn."
The show premieres this Sunday at 9 a.m. eastern. In addition to creating the song with Williams and Berninger, Peacock produced the music for the title theme. Peacock also produced The Civili Wars.
"I've been a big fan of AMC for years," Williams said. "When I was filled in on the premise of 'Turn,' and when I saw the pilot in advance, I was hooked. I leapt at the chance to create something original, and I'm so glad I was able to collaborate with Charlie Peacock and Matt Berninger to contribute to this stellar show."
"I was excited about this show from the second I heard about it, so it was a big thrill when Joy asked me to help write the theme song," Berninger said.
New Michael Jackson disc coming in May
Monday, March 31, 2014 – A new Michael Jackson disc, "Xscape," will be out May 13 on Epic.
The disc of new songs is being put out in conjunction with Jackson's estate.
The CD will also be available in a deluxe edition, which includes all of the sourced Jackson recordings in their original form.
"Xscape" was executive produced by Epic Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid, who, after an initial mining of Jackson's archives by the estate, was granted unlimited access to the songs representing four decades of material on which Jackson had completed his vocals.
Reid curated the final list of recordings to deliver to the producers, who retooled the production to add a fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson's essence and integrity.
The lead producer was Timbaland with additional producers including Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome "Jroc" Harmon and John McClain.
"Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world," said Reid. "Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world."
Written and produced by Jackson and Jerkins, the title track was the one song on the album that was ‘contemporized' by the producer who recorded it originally in the studio with Michael.
John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson said, "Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision."

Hynde releases non-solo solo album
Monday, March 24, 2014 – The Pretenders founder and leader, Chrissie Hynde will release "Stockholm," the first ever album under her own name, June 10 on Caroline Records in the U.S.
"It's the first album with my name on it," Hynde said. "But it's not a solo album. In fact, making this album was more of a collaboration than any Pretenders album ever was."
Recorded at Ingrid Studios in Stockholm with co-writer/guitarist Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John at the helm, the album features contributions from Neil Young, John McEnroe and Joakim Ahlund of The Caesars. The first single, "Dark Sunglasses," will go out instantly to all pre-orders on April 1.
"I wanted to make a power pop album you could dance to - Abba meets John Lennon," Hynde said.
"So much of rock n roll has become what I would call glory rock, with family values. It's the irreverence in rock that was always the turn-on. I disagree with people who say you shouldn't take yourself too seriously. I think life is serious, and you should take it seriously, but in rock n roll either have a fucking laugh or fuck off."

Pixies announce new CD, first since '91
Monday, March 24, 2014 – The Pixies will release "Indie Cindy," the band's first full studio album since 1991's "Trompe le Monde," in late April on the band's own Pixiesmusic.
The disc drops on April 23 in Japan, April 28 in UK/Europe/International and April 29 in North America.
"We started seriously talking about recording new music about four years ago," said Pixies drummer David Lovering. "New music seemed like something we just had to do, we just couldn't continue to go out and tour without anything new. So the talk evolved into writing and recording, and we're all very happy with the way everything worked out."
The 12 cuts on "Indie Cindy" were produced by Gil Norton, producer of the band's classic "Doolittle," "Bossanova" and "Trompe le Monde" albums, and recorded during October 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Wales.
The various packages feature a collection of brand new artwork by graphic artist Vaughan Oliver who created the artwork for all of Pixies' previous releases. The album is comprised of "Bagboy," the band's first new song in more than a decade, the eight tracks from the band's EP-1 and EP-2, released Sept. 3, 2013 and Jan. 3, 2014 respectively, plus the three new tunes from the just-released EP-3 - all written by the Pixies - Black Francis/vocals, guitar; Joey Santiago/guitars; David Lovering/drums, backing vocals. With EP-1, EP-2 and now EP-3 having been available only in digital and limited-edition vinyl formats, "Indie Cindy" will mark the first time fans can have all of the new Pixies music in one collection.
Pixies are making Indie Cindy available in a selection of formats:
a standard 12-track single-CD digipak with booklet; a two-disc, deluxe gatefold album, pressed on 180-gram vinyl; a standard 12-track digital download via iTunes, Amazon and other online retail sellers; and an expanded digital download exclusively through iTunes that includes a bonus live-in-concert 13-track set recorded during the band's recently-completed North American tour
Available at pixiesmusic.com, a special deluxe, limited edition (5,000) two-disc set (available as a CD and as a deluxe gatefold album pressed on 180-gram vinyl) that includes the 13-track live disc will be available. This deluxe package also includes a 40-page, hard-back book that features the new artwork produced exclusively for "Indie Cindy." The CD limited edition is packaged in a special gold-foil hard slipcase.
After five studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993 and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally.
The band secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall 2012. Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, working with a variety of touring bassists, something they'd never done.
The track listing is:
What Goes Boom
Greens and Blues
Blue Eyed Hexe
Ring the Bell
Another Toe in the Ocean
Track listing for Live In The USA*:
I've Been Tired

Queen + Adam Lambert tour North America
Thursday, March 6, 2014 – Queen + Adam Lambert will tour North American this summer, starting June 19 in Chicago.
Brian May, Roger Taylor and Lambert will come together for the first time in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Dallas and more. The 19-date tour wraps Sunday, July 20 in Washington, DC at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, their only outdoor summer concert.
Queen + Adam Lambert played at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September, leading to a conversation between the three to tour.
The threesome first shared the stage during American Idol in May 2009 for a performance of "We Are The Champions." They teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Ireland for an eight-minute finale of "The Show Must Go On," "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" and in the summer of 2012, Lambert performed a series of shows with Queen across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also performed three sold-out gigs at London's Hammersmith Apollo.
"Let's rock those beautiful arenas just one more time," said May.
"I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon," said Lambert. "The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal. I'm honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory; he's a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know this tour will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I feel like magic will be on display."
Lambert first gained acclaim on the eighth season of American Idol. He is currently writing and recording for his third album, which will be released this year.

Eno, Hyde team up
Monday, February 24, 2014 – Brian Eno and Karl Hyde joined forces to release "Someday World" this May on Warp Records
The disc includes nine songs, composed and sung by Eno and Hyde together. Hyde is a member of British electronic group Underworld. Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, Andy Mackay, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro helping out.
The release was produced by Eno with 22 year old Fred Gibson, continuing an ongoing collaboration between Hyde and Eno.
"A lot of the nicer cities I know are cities built on hills, and the cities are beautiful because the buildings have a challenge to adapt to," Eno said. "They have to mould themselves around the geology that they've formed upon. And that always makes for very interesting buildings because they can't just be blocks, they have to somehow morph around the environment. A lot of the constructions on the album were deliberately irregular and awkward."
"I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanize them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde," he said.
"It's a bit like being nine years old again," Hyde said. "You have no idea what you've just been given, the record button has been pressed and you're on. And then these unlikely patterns start to happen. The biggest surprise was discovering we both had a love of Afrobeat, Cyclical music based in live playing. When Brian played me these early tracks it was, 'Oh my god, this is home! Can I borrow a guitar?"
"Someday World" will be out as a special edition two- CD set with four bonus songs), CD, double gatefold LP and digital formats.
1. The Satellites
2. Daddy's Car
3. A Man Wakes Up
5. Strip It Down

I had reached a breaking point. For me, this record is a celebration, a cry for help, an admission of self doubt, and a revelation of self acceptance. At the very least, it's a pop record, and to me the purest example of the sound of Neon Trees."
Neon Trees will kick off 2014 on Thursday with an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallo nfollowed by a performance the next morning on Today. On Jan. 22, they'll return to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This spring Neon Trees will hit the road for a headlining North American tour. Dates to be announced shortly.
The CD is the follow up to band's 2012 release "Picture Show," which featured the RIAA platinum single "Everybody Talks." Neon Trees' debut album, "Habits," was released in 2010 and featured the platinum smash single "Animal."
From Provo, Utah, Neon Trees is Glenn (lead vocals, keys) Chris Allen (guitars), Branden Campbell (bass), and Elaine Bradley (drums, vocals).
