Stones announce 4 shows

Monday, October 15, 2012 – The Rolling Stones announced Monday they would play two dates on either side of the Atlantic as part of their 50th anniversary as a band.

The Stones in a video on their web site said they would play 2 shows at the Oz Arena in London on Nov. 25 and 29 and follow that with a pair of gigs at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Dec. 13 and 15.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, Oct. 26 to the general public.

The Stones last played live in 2007 at their Bigger Bang tour. The group had been rumored to play the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. before year's end.

The band went into the studio earlier this year in Paris to record two new songs for their upcoming compilation album "GRRR!, " out Nov. 13. The new single, Doom and Gloom, was released last week. "Crossfire Hurricane," a new documentary chronicling their 50-year career, will premiere on HBO on Nov. 13.

Foo Fighters take a break

Tuesday, October 2, 2012 – The Foo Fighters are going on hiatus.

That was the word from Dave Grohl in a letter he sent out to fans.

"Dave here. Just wanted to write and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for another incredible year. (Our 18th, to be exact!) We truly never could have done any of this without you..."

Never in my wildest dreams did I think Foo Fighters would make it this far. I never thought we COULD make it this far, to be honest. There were times when I didn't think the band would survive. There were times when I wanted to give up. But... I can't give up this band. And I never will. Because it's not just a band to me. It's my life. It's my family. It's my world."

Yes... I was serious. I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It's one of the reasons we're still here. Make sense? I never want to NOT be in this band. So, sometimes it's good to just... put it back in the garage for a while..."

But, no gold watches or vacations just yet... I'll be focusing all of my energy on finishing up my Sound City documentary film and album for worldwide release in the very near future. A year in the making, it could be the biggest, most important project I've ever worked on. Get ready... it's coming."

Me, Taylor, Nate, Pat, Chris, and Rami... I'm sure we'll all see you out there... somewhere..."

Thank you, thank you, thank you,"

Former Lily Allen records

Thursday, August 2, 2012 – Lily Rose Cooper, formerly known as Lily Allen, is heading back into the studio to continue recording new songs she has written over the past few months.

The singer recently tweeted that she was working on new songs. She has now booked further studio time to develop these songs and to work on even newer material. There are no release dates set for Cooper's new music, but anything she releases in the future will appear under her married name of Lily Rose Cooper.

Cooper said today, 'It's great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music. I'm excited to be heading back into the studio.'

In 2009, the writer/performer announced that she was stepping back from touring, having toured solidly for four years. She also showed signs of wears and tear from the road. At the time, she also announced that she had no immediate plans to make another record. Since then she has married, had her first baby, started her own successful record label, created the clothing business Lucy In Disguise, and seen her track Who'd Have Known? become a hit in the US for T-Pain, under the title 5 O'Clock.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 – Bob Dylan announced today that he was releasing his 35th solo disc, "The Tempest," on Sept. 11.

Deep Purple's Jon Lord passes

Monday, July 16, 2012 – Jon Lord, keyboardist for Deep Purple, died Monday a fatal pulmonary embolism in London after battling pancreatic cancer.

His web site said, "It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today...at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family."

Lord co-wrote many of the bands songs includingSmoke On The Water and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career.

Best known for his Orchestral work "Concerto for Group & Orchestra" first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 and conducted by Malcolm Arnold, a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.

Jon Douglas Lord was born in Leicester, England, on June 9, 1941. His first active contact with music was through the family piano, where he took classical music lessons from a very early age. As a teenager he strayed from the path after being subjected to the charms of jazz organ players such as Jimmy Smith and rock n roll piano-playing pioneers such as Jerry Lee Lewis.

At 19, a career in acting beckoned with a grant from a leading drama school in London. Lord began playing in jazz and rhythm and blues "combos" mainly in pub gigs. The first such band to be documented was the Bill Ashton Combo, a jazz group led by its eponymous, sax-playing leader.

In 1963, Jon joined Red Blood and his Bluesicians and acquired his first electric organ. By the next year he occupied the keyboard spot in the Artwoods, led by Art Wood, brother of future Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood. The Artwoods struggled for the next three years, releasing several singles and EPs and a now highly collectible album, "Art Gallery."

Lack of success led to the Artwoods splitting up, after failing a last attempt at cracking the charts under the alias St.Valentine's Day Massacre. Ronnie Wood then recruited Lord, Twink and Kim Gardner for a short-lived endeavour named Santa Barbara Machine Head who recorded three instrumental tracks that only surfaced on a various artists' compilation, the band having failed to secure a recording contract.

The Flowerpot Men, a more or less manufactured pop vocal ensemble, had a psychedelic hit and needed a backing band to help them out on the road. They recruited Lord to complete a band consisting of, among others, bassist Nick Simper (future founder member of Deep Purple) and drummer Carlo Little. The Flowerpot Men's backing band was called, appropriately enough in those pre-ironic times, The Garden.

Then came Chris Curtis and Deep Purple. Between 1968 and 1976 Purple was one of the world's most popular and creative bands, with Lord occupying a pivotal role both in the studio and onstage, through every permutation of the band's line up.

In between albums and tours, he found time for quite a bit of classically themed solo work, with albums such as "The Gemini Suite" and "First of the Big Bands." When Purple split in 1976, he went solo with the "Sarabande" album.

Shortly after, Lord formed Paice Ashton Lord with Purple drummer Ian Paice and longtime friend and musical collaborator the late Tony Ashton. After one album, "Malice in Wonderland," PAL split up and Lord went to Whitesnake. During Whitesnake's down time, Lord guested on albums by Cozy Powell, Graham Bonnet and others, and released another solo album, "Before I Forget."

Then came Deep Purple's reformation. Between 1984 and the present, Purple's career has been a roller coaster ride of 6 studio albums, literally thousands of live concerts all over the world, 5 different line ups and album sales in excess of 150 million units.

Lord wrote and recorded "Pictured Within" and eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002 to concentrate on his solo work, playing with Deep Purple for the last time in Ipswich, England, on Sept. 19 2002.

"I'm going to have myself a long and vibrant solo career," Lord said that night, and he's set his sights on fulfilling that promise. Since then he's done shows in Australia, Europe and Scandinavia, released one solo album and scored a number of new musical pieces.

Metallica launches music fest

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 – Metallica, in conjunction with C3 Presents, today announced the creation of Orion Music + More, a new annual music, arts, and lifestyle festival founded and headlined by the band. Orion Music + More will take place June 23-24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J.

"We've had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years," said Lars Ulrich. "Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious. After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, bringing the spirit of that week, the looseness of that week, the possibilities of that week, the fan interactive elements of that week…to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves."

Orion Music + More will feature multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of Metallica's band members many personal interests. Metallica will headline both nights of Orion Music + More and play "The Black Album" in its entirety one night "Ride The Lightning" in its entirety the other. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012.

The lineup for Orion Music + More will span multiple musical genres. From punk to country, over 20 bands will perform, including: Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage The Elephant, Fucked Up, Best Coast, Hot Snakes, Titus Andronicus, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Roky Erickson, The Black Angels, The Sword, Liturgy and more to be announced in the coming weeks.
