Gill tops new releases

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 – Vince Gill heads a short list of new releases today. Gill team with ace pedal steel player Paul Franklin for "Bakersfield." The disc contains songs done by Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, who were part of the Bakersfield sound.

A few sidemen also have new CDs out. Ron Block, better known as being a member of Alison Krauss' backing band, Union Station, is out with "Walking Song," a less religiously themed disc than previous efforts.

Chris Shiftlett & The Dead Peasants put out its second disc, "All Hat and No Cattle." Shiflett is best known for being a member of Foo Fighters.

Editorial: Walking the talk – When names like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Waylon and the Hag are invoked, you're talking hard core country. These are the touchstones of country , the guys who made country music what it was and still is (or maybe can be).
