Josh Turner goes double platinum
Friday, March 2, 2007 – Josh Turner was certified double platinum with his sophomore release "Your Man," his label announced Friday. Three country releases from 2006 achieved this status: Rascal Flatts' "Me And My Gang," Dixie Chicks' "Takin' the Long Way Home" and Turner.
Turner has racked up more than 3 million in sales. The title cut of his first album "Long Black Train" introduced the South Carolinian to the country audience and earned Turner his first platinum album. A year after release, "Your Man" remains in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart, selling about 15,000 per week. His current single, a duet with Ralph Stanley, "Me And God," is in the top 25.

There are two versions of Josh Turner's fourth CD - standard and deluxe. The deluxe has the same 11 tracks as the standard, plus (among other goodies) live versions of previously released songs Long Black Train and Your Man .
But don't spend more money than you have to; if it's redundancy you're looking for, there's plenty to be had on the standard version. Turner has a compelling baritone, but the songs on here feel like they followed the standard 2010 country CD checklist. »»» |

Live at the Ryman
Josh Turner burst on the scene in 2003 with "Long Black Train," showcasing his big baritone voice, pushing traditional country music when others went pop. After two albums, he now surfaces with a live disc at the mother church of country.

Here it is the top 30 for 2009. This isn't authoritative in case you thought otherwise. It's just one man's opinion about his favorite CDs of the year, which seemed a cut above everything else. It was incredibly hard figuring out a number one CD for the year between the Avett Brothers, Brad Paisley and George Strait. All three were great albums from different perspectives of country and roots music, and at any one time over the past few days, each was my favorite. Come back in a few days, and who knows?
