Garth Brooks sells out
Sunday, October 25, 2009 – Garth Brooks' return to performing is a hot ticket.
Tickets for Brooks' first 20 shows at the Wynn Las Vegas resort sold out in less than 5 hours. The resort said Saturday it had almost 142,000 callers with a web site for tickets attracting 5.4 million page views.
Brooks announced he was coming out of retirement about 10 days ago to play shows at the Las Vegas casino. He will do 15 weeks of shows per year on Fridays through Sundays at a theatre holding about 1,500 people. Tickets were priced at $125.
The shows start Dec. 11.

Garth Brooks may have taken a break from retirement to do a series of shows in Kansas City, but he hasn't added much to his established hits with this two-CD, one-DVD release.
Of the 34 songs on the album, only 4 are new. There's the current single, "More Than Memory," a departure from Brooks's more traditional "Lost Sessions" album. The mid-tempo song is both catchy and melancholy simultaneously.

Garth Brooks is back, sort of with this four-release set (the previously released "Sevens," "Scarecrow" "Double Live" with a new cover, but no new music and 11 previously unreleased songs, "The Lost Sessions."

Garth Brooks has unretired yet again. No surprise. And neither is there very much on his latest much to get surprised about. GB incorporates a few harder core country songs (the duet with George Jones "Beer Run") and the album's highlight, "Pushing Up Daisies" with fine singing plus a duet with Trisha Yearwood on Delbert McClinton's co-write of "Squeeze Me In" (let's hope the two do eventually record a duets album).

Here it is the top 30 for 2009. This isn't authoritative in case you thought otherwise. It's just one man's opinion about his favorite CDs of the year, which seemed a cut above everything else. It was incredibly hard figuring out a number one CD for the year between the Avett Brothers, Brad Paisley and George Strait. All three were great albums from different perspectives of country and roots music, and at any one time over the past few days, each was my favorite. Come back in a few days, and who knows? There are two versions of Josh Turner's fourth CD - standard and deluxe. The deluxe has the same 11 tracks as the standard, plus (among other goodies) live versions of previously released songs Long Black Train and Your Man .
