Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel recording joint album
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 – Willie Nelson is not exactly slowing down. He is at work on a joint project iwth Texas swing band Asleep at the Wheel on a joint album. They started recording last summer at the Wheel's Texas studio and now are recording when schedules permit, according to an employee at AATW's management company. A final song will be recorded Thursday.
The album is a covers disc of songs from the 1930's, including songs by Milton Brown. It is not clear when the CD will be done. AATW, which soon will tour Europe, previously worked with Nelson the "Last of the Breed" CD with Ray Price and Merle Haggard.

Though Willie Nelson is revered as one of the greatest singer/songwriters in country music history he has never been confined to that genre as this collection exemplifies.

There is classic country with Eddie Arnold's You Don't Know Me, as well as a pair of duets with the legendary Ray Price (I'm Still Not Over You and Lost Highway).

Naked Willie
Longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael has done for Willie Nelson what Paul McCartney did for The Beatles with the stripped down "Let It Be...Naked." With Nelson's blessing Raphael revisited Nelson's RCA catalog and remixed several tracks, removing layers of strings, horns and background singers to get closer to Nelson's original vision of the tunes.
On several tracks, including I'm A Memory, Following Me Around and Johnny One Time, Nelson's guitar is rescued from the mix. »»» |

Through three releases, the one constant about Carrie Underwood is her big voice. It's an instrument in and of itself no matter whether going for somewhat of a country sound, a pure pop bent or a tougher, rocking edge.
