Stonewall Jackson gets 2009 court date in Opry discrimination suit

Friday, February 22, 2008 – An age discrimination suit brought against the Grand Ole Opry by Opry member Stonewall Jackson is scheduled for a 2009 court date.

Jackson is slated to do battle with the Opry in a federal court starting Feb. 10, 2009, according to a publicist.

In 2006, Jackson sued the Grand Ole Opry for $10 million, claiming age discrimination. As a member of the Opry for more than 50 years, Jackson claimed that management was sidelining him in favor of younger artists. In his court filing, Jackson claimed that Grand Ole Opry general manager Pete Fisher stated that he didn't "want any gray hairs on that stage or in the audience, and before I'm done there won't be any." Fisher is also alleged to have told Jackson that he was "too old and too country."

Adkins, on the other hand, has not been afraid to speak his mind with a kick butt attitude.... »»»
Concert Review: Eilen Jewell wears her musical hats well – Eilen Jewell wears a lot of musical hats. The Idaho native, who now lives in Boston, fronts the Eilen (ee-lin) Jewell Band, a pretty much traditional country band. She's a member the Sacred Shakers, an octet doing gospel country with a country beat. And she has yet another project, Butcher Holler, covering Loretta Lynn songs.... »»»
