Carrie Underwood goes double platinum
Thursday, December 13, 2007 – Carrie Underwood went double platinum with her second release, "Carnival Ride." That signifies sales of 2 million units.
Sales of the disc, which came out in October, were helped by the number one single "So Small," her fifth consecutive number one single.
Carrie Underwood will be the first female artist in Billboard history to earn back-to-back honors for Top Country Album. Only one other artist - Charlie Rich, in 1973-74.
Based on cumulative SoundScan sales now in excess of 6.1 million copies, "Some Heart"s this year became the best-selling female country debut in history. No album - in any genre - to release since "Some Heart's (on Nov. 15, 2005) has surpassed the disc's sales to date.
Underwood soon will release a new single, "All-American Girl," along with performing live in New York City's Times Square on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008 on ABC.

Through three releases, the one constant about Carrie Underwood is her big voice. It's an instrument in and of itself no matter whether going for somewhat of a country sound, a pure pop bent or a tougher, rocking edge. She can add the right touch to sad songs such as Temporary Home in part about a young boy who has to shuffle from home to home or the tough sounding Quitter.

Here it is the top 30 for 2009. This isn't authoritative in case you thought otherwise. It's just one man's opinion about his favorite CDs of the year, which seemed a cut above everything else. It was incredibly hard figuring out a number one CD for the year between the Avett Brothers, Brad Paisley and George Strait. All three were great albums from different perspectives of country and roots music, and at any one time over the past few days, each was my favorite. Come back in a few days, and who knows?
