Swift, West make strange bedfellows, once more

Country Standard Time Editorial, December 2009

Music makes very very strange bedfellows. Taylor Swift and Kanye West will share it metaphysically anyway as they were named Billboard's female and male artists of the year, it was announced Thursday. Swift was the only country artist in either category unless Miley Cyrus is included, and she's less country than a lot of other folks who say they're country.

For those with short memories, West was the guy who interrupted Swift when she won a Video Music Award a few months back, and went on a massive tirade saying that Beyonce was the most deserving artist.

The incident seemed to propel Swift to greater stardom and made West hide with his tail between his legs. Instead of a tour with Lady Gaga, he pulled out completely for a period of self-reflection.

According to Billboard, Swift beat out Beyonce for the award. This has been a huge year for Swift. She won two Academy of Country Music awards, five BMI awards, and five Country Music Association awards (including Entertainer of the Year). She also received five American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year over the likes of Michael Jackson. She also was nominated for eight Grammys, second most to Beyonce.
