There are touches of country, bluegrass, folk and blues in this acoustic effort from String Cheese Incident's Bill Nershi.

Nershi is joined by his wife Jilian and singer/songwriter Scott Law on 13 tracks which the liner notes proclaim were recorded "the old time way" with the musicians all in one room with no separation between voices and instruments.

Most of the tunes are provided by the band members. Nershi contributes the folksy "Weary Homesick Blues" and "School Bells," as well as the bluegrass instrumental "Magnolia Road." Jilian Nershi writes and sings the melancholy "We'll Dance" and "Another River."

Law's "Shot In The Blue" features nice Dobro work from Nershi. Law also revisits a pair of tunes from his solo album "Deliver" with the title track and "Let The Pieces Fall."

There's a reworking of the String Cheese Incident song "The Big Compromise", co-written with Nershi by Jim Lauderdale. Other nicely done covers are A.P. Carter's "Bear Creek Blues" and Mickey Newbury's "Why You Been Gone So Long."

With impressive picking from guitarists Nershi (Dobro, lap steel) and Law (mandolin), as well as pleasant vocals from Jilian Nershi, this is a thoroughly enjoyable project.
