Taylor Swift finds out who her friends are

Remember the hit song by Tracy Lawrence Find Out Who Your Friends Are?
I think it would be very easy right about now for Taylor Swift to start singing that song. She's not alone, of course, among celebrities. She may have been interested in the musical part of her career, but once you become famous, everyone wants a piece of you.
I say this after getting a press release and writing yesterday about Swift meeting up with ex-flame Jake Gyllenhaal in a Nashville restaurant. They had already broken up after a few months, but the actor apparently wanted to clear the air.
In steps US Weekly to report about the big "news." But it's not like Swift held a press conference (well, let's hope she didn't). The story quote some "friend" of Swift's in spilling all the beans.
Among the juicy quotes but person self-described as being "close" with Swift: "They sat by the fireplace," said an eyewitness of the exes, who had a whirlwind two-month romance. "They were both smiling."
"Taylor was nervous the whole time," said the source, described as "close" to Swift.
Assuming the friend did not consult with Swift before speaking to the weekly magazine, it's pretty lame to start breaking confidences (even if not explicitly stated) and reporting the social goings on of a very public figure. Of course, it's all just grist for the gossip columnists
Yes, Swift's fans may want to know about her latest flame, but is it really, truly any of their business? I guess it makes the friend (hopefully soon to be ex-friend) feel important.
Maybe it is better not to have the lifestyles of the rich and very famous.
