Country comes home

Jeffrey Remz  |  September 28, 2010

The May floods devastated Nashville with loss of life, homes and, of course, the waters affected the music scene

The Grand Ole Opry was forced to vacate its home due to the floodwaters coming into the venue itself. Lower Broadway also was flooded.

But the music life continued in Music City unabated. Yes, the Opry was forced to find alternative settings for its unique brand of concerts, but country music carried on.

Tonight marks the return of the Opry to its home at Opry Mills in the concert billed as "Country Comes Home." The night will be a special one with Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Martina McBride, Charlie Daniels Band, Trace Adkins, Josh Turner, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Diamond Rio, Del McCoury Band, Mel Tillis and Little Jimmy Dickens among those participating in the event.

Those unable to attend - and that's most of us - will be able to see a live stream of the show at opry.com, ustream.com/opry, GACTV.com, and participating artists' websites beginning at 8 p.m. central.

This is a most welcome return for the Opry and country music.
