Infrequently here at Fervor Coulee Bluegrass, I reach into the archive to feature an album that was released several years ago. This time out, I'm only going to 2009 for Sam Bush's most recent recording, "Circles Around Me." Upon listening today, I've updated and expanded [...]

July has allowed me time to listen to a lot of music while sitting on the deck in the sun. We're just a few days away from the annual Blueberry Bluegrass fest in Stony Plain, Alberta and a lot of what I've been listening to is top-notch bluegrass. A month ago I made a list of 12 songs I [...]

I've been a freelance roots and bluegrass music writer for the past decade. I originally got started writing for The Gateway, the University of Alberta newspaper. More than 15 years later, I got bit again by the writing bug with a No Depression concert review and soon established the Roots Music column in the Red Deer Advocate newspaper. Until it ceased publication, I regularly wrote reviews for Bluegrass Now.

Currently I write for two websites, The Lonesome Road Review and Country Standard Time. I also maintain a blog with additional reviews and thoughts at I'm proud to be a member of the Polaris Music Prize Jury. Please contact me at
