Texas Thursdays

Mike Sudhalter  |  August 17, 2011

Thursdays are a good day to catch up on Texas Music that I've ever heard recently, so I present to you Country Mike's Texas Thursdays.

The Texas Music scene has always been eclectic and all-encompassing, and that's a good thing for T.J. Broscoff, who has more of a pop/rock vibe to his music, especially on songs like "Losing Trixie."

Some of the instrumentation on Broscoff's "Ready to Fly" album lends itself to country. His publicist describes Broscoff as the Dave Matthews of Texas Country. I can see that.

He gets a little bluesy on the title track and kind of bluegrass on "Bigger Bigger Than You."

Most of Broscoff's music is a little bit too melancholy for me, but I think he'll find a niche audience in Texas Music.

Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward have consistently been working as the opening act for major Texas acts, and here lately, as the headliners.

Parker 50 PR did something really creative -they recorded a live album in their Corinth, Texas living room. How about that?

This is good, rollicking Texas Music, and you can almost immediately get the homespun vibe of the living room by listening to the album.

These troubadours even take us to "Atlantic City" in one song, all the way from their Texas living room.

"I'm Never Gonna Get Married" is an interesting, albeit, odd ode to the perceived benefits of solitude.

We'll see everyone again for Texas Thursdays next week. And introducing Traditional Tuesdays, which will debut this Tuesday.

And if you have an album you'd like us to discuss for either segment, contact me at {EMAIL:countrymike@countrystandardtime.com]
