Country Mike

Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" is getting played on country radio; she has a lot of potential as a country music artist. If I was advising her, I'd say that's the way to go. Pop music will move on to the next big thing, but Cyrus has a chance to have a long, successful career in [...]

Montgomery Gentry, the rowdy duo from Kentucky, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday, presumably because they've had a decade of hits to their credit.
But here are some of their lesser-known songs that I really enjoyed. "I Loved A Lot More Than I've Hurt" - a very [...]

No, I'm not talking about the sitcom set in Chicago with Balky and that other guy.
The band, "Perfect Stranger," founded 23 years ago in Texas, had a few minor hits during the 1990's like "You Have The Right To Remain Silent" and "Ridin' The Rodeo."

The 10 you've been waiting for. The 10 states where country music has a firm place in the past and in the future.
10. Pennsylvania Of all the Northeastern States, Pennsylvania definitely has the largest country music appeal. There are lots of live shows and concerts throughout the state. [...]

20. Nevada For all of the Old West flavor behind the glitz and glamor of Las Vegas and Reno, one would expect more country music. Sure, there's the National Finals Rodeo, and a couple of weeks during which country stars visit Las Vegas, left and right. The stars also perform in Las Vegas, and [...]

Even though the economy is bad, it's good to see that CMA Festival numbers are up. It really speaks to the dedication and loyalty of country music fans.
My post-CMA Festival experience hasn't been so great. I'm still waiting for luggage to arrive almost four days later. At least, [...]

Sunday was my traveling day, and a friend drove me to the airport so I didn't have to pay the $25 for a cab ride.
The downside of that was staying in the airport for most of the day. The flight from Nashville to Dallas-Fort Worth was delayed by almost two hours, and I just barely made my [...]

It's a rhetorical question, and it's part of the CMA Music Festival promotion -- "Why Sleep?" The obvious reason to skip out on catching zzzzs was because of all the excitement, music and fun at the festival.
I discovered -- the hard way -- why sleep during this festival is [...]

Hello, country music fans near and far. My name is Mike Sudhalter and I've
been a dedicated country music journalist, fan and observer since the mid
1990s. I hail from suburban Boston (Sharon, Mass.) where I took a lot of
ribbing from friends and classmates over the twang.
I wrote my first article for Country Standard Time in the summer of 1998 (reviewing a
Lee Ann Womack concert
at Indian Ranch) and have since written for several publications, both
local, regional and national.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts and opinions on trends,
developments and events in the world of country music.
Feel free to email me
your thoughts and feedback.
